Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans, serving 11.8 million members with health insurance, medical facilities, and physicians. Their Every Body Walk! is now an ongoing wellness campaign.

Objectives
- Redesign a efficient and fun-to-use app for iOS and Android to support the campaign
- Enable tracking and goal-setting for walking distance, time, calories burned, and routes
- Encourage users to share walking progress and history on social media

Approach & Activities
KP wanted to create a low barrier to entry for positive daily exercise and easy mobile engagement with its members. Our team was inspired by new studies emerging related to the benefits of simply walking, and I focused on supporting this app’s short- and long-term success as a campaign/movement with:
- Comparative Analysis
- Redesigned the app user experience

- Paper prototypes
- Interaction design / wireframes and user flows

- The Every Body Walk! app has been downloaded 126,000 times to date
- KP’s Every Body Walk! campaign has continued to expand its reach and ability to engage members through regular, habit-formed touchpoints
- Received a Silver Web Health Mobile Award from the prestigious Health Information Resource Center
